Meeting Minutes:

Chatsworth PTO Meeting Minutes

May 11, 2010

I. Call to Order - The meeting was called to order at 4:30 PM, by President Bev Koerner with the following people present: Luke & Pamela Bartlett, Paula Boundy, Donna Follwell, Sasha Gebo, Principal Karen Hazelrigg, Diane Kerber and Janet Millis.

II. Secretary/Treasurers Report – Minutes from the last meeting were presented, along with the activity fund printout showing a balance of $1,526.78. Sasha moved to approve the minutes seconded by Diane and the motion carried.

III. Principal’s Report – Principal Hazelrigg reported that the classes have been very busy lately with field trips and the class AR trips are also coming up. The last full day of school is the 26th and that afternoon the students will participate in the annual games day event. Mr. Sieving is still looking for volunteers to help with the activities, please contact him if you are able to help. Report card pickup will then be the morning of the 28th.

She also reported that due to budget issues, the para-professionals for next year are being cut. Also starting next year the kindergarten workshop is going to be separate from the other classes. This will help better meet the needs of all the students during the workshops.

On a more positive note, the stimulus money finally came thru to the school. This is to be used to provide new technological tools and programs to the students. Each classroom will receive 3 newer computers and they will also be acquiring a new reading and math program.

Karen wrapped up her report by thanking everyone for their support on helping provide another fantastic school year.

IV. Easter Basket Raffle Report - $115 was raised.

V. Mother’s Day Make-It Take-It Night – Karen reported that it was a success despite the last minute setup. Randy wasn’t at school that day to help with the table setup and the event crept up on everyone. There were 2 parents, 4 teachers and Karen manning the event. There was a great turn out and the kids had fun, like always. This is a busy time of year and we will discuss maybe taking a break from this event next year.

VI. Teacher Appreciation Week – The teachers present at the meeting thanked everyone for the luncheon and gifts. It worked out great having the luncheon towards the end of the week and there were even left-overs for Friday.

VII. Fundraising Ideas – Karen mentioned that the Principal Advisory Team discussed having a theme for the school next year to be “Chatsworth Hawks for World Peace”. They have a book they are going to use to help organize the idea and events for this theme and thought that maybe a T-shirt/Sweatshirt could be designed with this slogan and sold. Donna is going to check on some prices and check with Kathy to see what we’ve done in the past.

We discussed bringing back the Christmas Housewalk again next year and taking a break from the basket raffle for a year. Bev will check with Becky McGreal to see if she might have some people in mind willing to showcase their house.

It was decided even though we’d be taking a break from the big basket raffle, we would still have the student raffles maybe for Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Easter. A stocking raffle was suggested for Christmas.

Other ideas were tabled until our first meeting for the next school year 2010/2011.

VIII. Day and Time of Meetings Next Year – After the review of the surveys and discussion, Diane motioned to keep the meeting time and date the same (Tuesday at 4:30). Paula seconded and the motion carried.

IX. PTO Meeting Incentives – After discussion it was decided that the incentives are not bringing any new comers to the meetings and we would discontinue the incentives.

X. Other Business – Donna asked for any suggestions to the website for the PTO are emailed to her. Luke is in charge of the township website and he will put a link to our PTO site on his. Karen mentioned that Meadowbrook is interested in splitting assemblies with Chatsworth Elementary again for next year. Paula motioned to allocate $1,000 of the activity fund for the cost of these assemblies, seconded by Janet and the motion carried.

XI. Casey’s Gift Card Drawing – Bev drew Janet’s name from the hat as the winner of the gift card.

XII. Adjournment – The meeting was adjourned at 5:25 PM.
