By email -- anytime! **From October 29th - January 3rd, I will be on maternity leave!!! :) ** Education I graduated from Augustana College in 1999 with a major in Spanish and Sociology/Anthropology and a minor in Latin American Studies. While at Augustana, I discovered a passion for travel and took advantage of two amazing study abroad opportunities: a summer in Cuenca, Ecuador (with a side trip to Peru) and a fall term in East Asia (Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and mainland China). I believe that cultural immersion is the most effective way to learn a language, and I do my best to recreate that atmosphere in my classroom however possible. After Augustana, I spent two years working in the distance learning lab and helping ESL students at Tremont High School. It was there that I decided I wanted to become a teacher. I went back to school and got my teaching degree from Illinois State University in the fall of 2002, and began working at Prairie Central the following year. I am currently working toward a master's degree in Spanish linguistics and pedagogy at ISU. Interests Aside from traveling, as mentioned above, I also enjoy endurance athletics. I was a swimmer throughout high school and college, and since 2000 I have been involved in running and triathlons. I have completed several marathons, a few Ironman triathlons, and even an ultramarathon. I am also the boys' and girls' cross country coach here at PC. When I am not teaching/coaching, training, or studying, I enjoy reading, helping my husband with home improvement projects, and spending time with my family and friends. |
