PCHS VISUAL ART COURSES



DRAWING AND DESIGN

This class is designed for the beginning art student, with an emphasis on two-dimensional work.  Students will learn how to draw forms using perspective and shading.  Assignments will incorporate the elements and principles of art, to create still life drawings and landscapes.  Drawing media used will include pencil, charcoal and ink.  Students will develop skills, that will enable them to evaluate and critique two-dimensional artwork.

Class Level: 9-12

1 nine week term
Credit 1/2 unit credit



DRAWING AND PAINTING

Drawing and Painting builds on the skills learned in Drawing and Design, emphasizing two-dimensional work.  Students will study  color and its effective use in a composition.  Assignments will incorporate the elements and principles of art, to create still life drawings and landscapes, in various styles of drawing and painting.  Color media used will be pastels, watercolors, tempera and acrylic paint.  Students will continue developing skills that will enable them to evaluate and critique two-dimensional artwork.

Prerequisite: Drawing and Design - (minimum grade 78%)
Class Level: 9-12

1 nine week term
Credit 1/2 unit credit



POTTERY AND SCULPTURE

Pottery and Sculpture builds on the skills learned in Drawing and Design, emphasizing three-dimensional work. Students will study three-dimensional form and the effective use of the elements and principles of art in a composition. Pottery methods will include hand building and wheel throwing. Sculpture media will be clay, paper, and tooling foil. Students will develop skills that will enable them to evaluate and critique three-dimensional artwork.

Prerequisite: Drawing and Design - (minimum grade 78%)
Class level: 9-12

ADVANCED DRAWING

Advanced Drawing is designed for the serious art student, and expands on the skills learned in Drawing and Design.  Lessons will apply the elements and principles of art, to create portrait and figure drawing.  Some of the drawing media used will be pencil, charcoal, ink and pastels.  Students will continue developing skills that will enable them to evaluate and critique artwork.

Perquisites: Drawing & Design AND Drawing & Painting
  
                         (minimum grade 89% in Drawing & Painting)

1 nine week term
Class level: 11-12 Credit 1/2 unit credit



ADVANCED art

Advanced Art is designed for the serious art student. Students will be challenged as they create portfolio quality work. A variety of materials and methods will be used to further develop skills learned in previous art courses. Works of art by artists, from both, the past and present, will be explored. Students will continue developing skills that will enable them to evaluate and critique artwork.

Prerequisites:  Pottery & Sculpture and Advanced Drawing
                                     (minimum grade 89% in Advanced Drawing)
Class level: 11-12

1 nine week term
