DRAWING AND DESIGN
(1 nine week term)

This class is designed for the beginning art student, with an emphasis on two-dimensional work.  Students will learn how to draw forms using perspective and shading.  Assignments will incorporate the elements and principles of art, to create still life drawings and landscapes.  Drawing media used will include pencil, charcoal and computers.  Students will develop skills that will enable them to evaluate and critique two-dimensional artwork.

DRAWING AND PAINTING
(1 nine week term)

Drawing and Painting builds on the skills learned in Drawing and Design, emphasizing two-dimensional work.  Students will study color and its effective use in a composition.  Assignments will incorporate the elements and principles of art, to create designs, still life drawings, and landscapes in various styles of drawing and painting.  Color media used will be watercolors, tempera and acrylic paint.  Students will continue developing skills that will enable them to evaluate and critique two-dimensional artwork.

Prerequisite:  Drawing and Design (Minimum Grade 78%)

POTTERY AND SCULPTURE
(1 nine week term)

Pottery and Sculpture builds on the skills learned in Drawing and Design, emphasizing three-dimensional work.  Students will study three-dimensional form and the effective use of the elements and principles of art in a composition.  Pottery methods will include hand building and wheel throwing.  Sculpture media will be clay, paper, and tooling foil.  Students will develop skills that will enable them to evaluate and critique three-dimensional artwork.

INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER GRAPHICS
(1 nine week term)
 

Introduction to Computer Graphics will explore creating a variety of artworks using the professional computer software, Corel Draw Graphics Suite.  The software includes drawing (vector / object based) and photo paint (bit map) programs. Students will learn essential computer graphics concepts and apply previously learned design theories to create computer art projects.  Students will, also, develop skills that will enable them to evaluate and critique computer generated artwork.

Drawing & Painting (Minimum Grade 86%)

ADVANCED DRAWING
(1 nine week term)

Advanced Drawing is designed for the serious art student and builds on the content learned in all previous art classes.  In this class, students will begin creating artworks that will qualify for college entrance portfolios.  Students will have opportunities to create drawings in a variety of media, to strengthen their drawing skills, and to develop and expand their abilities to think creatively and critically. 


Perquisites:  Drawing & Painting (grade minimum of 89%)

ADVANCED ART I
(1 nine week term)

Advanced Art I is designed for the serious art student.  Students will be challenged as they create portfolio quality work.  A variety of materials and methods will be used to further develop skills learned in previous art courses.  Works of art by artists, from both, the past and present, will be explored.  Students will continue developing skills that will enable them to evaluate and critique artwork.

Prerequisites:  Advanced Drawing and either Introduction to Computer Graphics or Pottery & Sculpture
                                  (Both classes, Introduction to Computer Graphics and Pottery & Sculpture are recommended,
                                                         but only one of the two classes is required.)                                                                                  (Advanced Drawing - grade minimum of 89%)

ADVANCED ART II 
(1 nine week term)

Advanced Art II is a continuation of Advanced Art I.  It is for the serious art student who is either planning to enroll in art classes in college or pursue an art career.  Portfolio quality artworks will be created, and art criticism and analysis skills will be further developed.  At the end of this course, students will present their portfolio for a formal review.  The portfolio will include ten to twelve works created during Advanced Art I & Advanced Art II.

NOTE*
To take Advanced Art II, students must take Advanced Art I during their Junior year.  
The two classes are taught together at the same time.

Prerequisites:  Advanced Art I (grade minimum of 93%)   &   Teacher Consent
