COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Foods & Nutrition I (1 term)

Basic meal planning/nutrition begin in Foods I. Breakfast type foods-quick breads, beverages, eggs, breakfast meats, cheese, milk: and  lunch type foods-soups, sandwiches, and casseroles are studied and prepared in laboratory situations.  Lab fees are charged.

Foods Preparation & Nutrition II (1 term)

A concentrated study of classifications of vegetables, meat, fish, poultry, and basic types of desserts are prepared in a laboratory situation.  Additional emphasis is placed on nutrition, economical food preparation, and management.  Lab fees are charged.

Prerequisite: Foods & Nutrition I

Advanced Food Preparation & Management III (1 term)

An advanced study of special skills used in preparation of yeast breads, pastries, cakes and cake decorating, candies, and pastas.  Laboratory work is individualized.  Lab fees are charged.

Prerequisite: Food Preparation & Nutrition II

Class Level: 10-12

Credit: 1/2 unit credit

International Foods (1 term)

Students in International Foods will study the cultures and customs of foods and their preparation of various foreign countries as well as regions of the United States.  Lab fees are charged.

Adult Living (1 term)

This course is designed to assist individuals and families in achieving life satisfaction through reasonable participation as adults in the home, community, and workplace.  Emphasis is placed on responding to situations in terms of identified goals and values.  Personality, communication, relationships, marriage, death, and divorce are studied.

Parenting ( 1 term)

This course is designed for the student interested in children.  Emotional, social, mental development of the child are covered as well as supervision of children in various situations.  Career opportunities are also discussed.  Parenting will help students think through the responsibilities, satisfaction, and stress of parenthood.  Areas of emphasis include: pre-natal and post-natal development and care; childbirth, parenting situations; effective parenting; stress prevention and management.

Housing & Interior Design (1 term)

Housing and Interior Design is a study of the structuring of a house, house design, and how it related to the interior design.  Also emphasized are design principles, furniture styles, selection and coordination of the interior design.

Clothing & Textiles I  (1 term)

Students learn the role of clothing in the life of the individual and society; the importance of color, line, and design in fashion.  Material is covered on fabrics, sewing equipment, and care and operation of the sewing machine.  Basic construction skills are performed in various projects.  Lab fees are charged.
