FCCLA to Host Autism Walk (5/2/14) - FCCLA would like you to join us for a walk that benefits "Autism Speaks," a group that advocates for individuals affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders.  This out-reach project was chosen nationally as the primary focus for FCCLA this year.  Prairie Central FCCLA is hosting the walk, children's games. a bounce house, and cake walk.  The event will be held at North Park, Fairbury on Sat., May 10 from 9 AM to Noon. FCCLA - Chapter Receives State Awards (4/25/14) - A successful weekend at the State FCCLA Leadership Conference earned several awards and medals for Prairie Central students.  Held in Springfield from April 10 - 12, the conference offered an opportunity for students to participate in workshops, business sessions, and compete with projects.  Twenty-five FCCLA members attended with chaperones Patty Maier and Jamie Stork, and Adviser Jeannea Shier. Students Support American Red Cross (4/1/14) - Prairie Central High School students have conducted two projects to help others through The American Red Cross.  Shortly after the tornadoes in Washington, IL, FCCLA, National Honor Society, and Student Senate collected monetary donations and bottled water to aid those affected by the disaster.   A total of $876.97 was collected from students and staff and at ballgames. PCHS Science Symposium - Prairie Central High School, in Fairbury, hosted a Science STEM Symposium on Thursday, December 5 and Friday, December 6. The students chose scientific topics on which they performed background research during the months of September and October. (read more)

FCCLA - Helping those in Crises (3/14/14):  Prairie Central High School FCCLA has printed a second edition of its 2012 cookbook.  This time around, it will help women and children in a crises shelter.  One of our former FCCLA members works at this shelter and is working with current FCCLA members to help women get back on their feet and feed their families.
Proceeds made from the cookbook will be going towards cooking equipment (measuring cups, mixing bowls, etc.) for women who are leaving the shelter to begin their new life.  Cookbooks can be purchased at the customer service desk at Dave's Supermarket for $10 dollars each or by contacting FCCLA Adviser, Mrs. Shier, at jshier@prairiecentral.org to order.

FCCLA Update (2/26/13)FCCLA Week, February 11 Ė 14, found the members of the Prairie Central chapter celebrating the accomplishments of the year while adding a few more. The week featured raising awareness and money for the March of Dimes. Nearly $300 was raised to help prevent birth defects and premature birth, the goals of the March of Dimes. (read more)

FCCLA Update (8/23/12) Ten PCHS FCCLA members attended the National Leadership Conference this summer in Orlando, Florida.  Eight presented their projects and received recognition for their efforts.

The Junior class is selling glow in the dark bracelets with the slogan SAVE A LIFEÖDONíT TEXT & DRIVE for $3.   AT &T has launched a national campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of texting and driving among teenage drivers.

Hawk Wrestling Recognized at State Level (4/12/11)
The Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association (IWCOA) recognized the accomplishments of the Prairie Central wrestling program as well as other programs throughout the state at its 41st Annual All-State Banquet held last weekend on April 3rd at the Park Place Banquet Hall in Countryside. Students Send Supplies to Haiti: (3/18/11)
School supplies, personal items, and soup mixes will be delivered next week to Haitian families affected by the devastating earthquake. Abby Rinkenberger and Faith Steidinger, members of Prairie Central FCCLA, coordinated the project which began in November. Since that time, many FCCLA members, students at PCHS, and seamstresses have made donations of items or time to the project. (read more)

PCHS Blood Drive (3/7/11)
In the second annual PCHS Blood Drive, 112 students and staff donated blood on Mon., Mar. 7.  FCCLA members Cheyenne Ledford and Ashley Snearly coordinated the drive and chose a goal of 101 donors.  Due to the extreme caring of those in the school, the goal was exceeded. (read more)

PCHS Honors (2/28/11):
Prairie Central High School was one of only 93 schools across the state that earned the Academic Improvement Award.  To be recognized for ďImprovementĒ, a school must show a gain of at least 7.5 points in average reading and math test scores between 2009 and 2010, a gain of at least 15 points in both disciplines between 2008 and 2010, and generally an upward trend in all state test results.  PCHS also learned recently from an article released by the Chicago Sun-Times that it is ranked 90th in 2010 achievement among 673 high schools in Illinois.  Congratulations to Principal Daniel Casillas and staff!


FCCLA Happenings (1/18/11):
I:n an effort to make the holiday season brighter for area families, the Prairie Central FCCLA chapter conducted food and toy drives within the school and community.  The collections netted 522 toys and 1046 food items. (read more)

PCHS Student Recognized for Volunteer Work (3/24/10):  Carson Cross, age 18, son of Rita Rich of Fairbury, IL, has been honored for his exemplary volunteer service with a Presidentís Volunteer Service Award. The award, which recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country, was presented by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program on behalf of President Obama. PCHS Student Finalist for National Merit Scholarship (2/10/10): Jordan Pilgrim has advanced to Finalist standing in the 55th annual National Merit Scholarship Program of two thousand and ten by demonstrating through distinguished performance high potential for future academic accomplishment. Pilgrim will have the opportunity this spring to compete in the  competition for some 8,200 National Merit Scholarships, worth more than 36 million, from a group of more than 15,000 Finalists. Approximately half of the Finalist will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title. (read more)

PCHS Teacher Becomes Nationally Board Certified (12/14/09): Teaching excellence in Illinois has taken a major step forward following a recent announcement by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards that Becky Shafer, a mathematics teacher at Prairie Central High School, has achieved National Board Certification in 2009. FCCLA Happenings (12/20/10):  The PCHS FCCLA chapter has been busy this year.  On October 16th, they hosted a family fun day at North Park in Fairbury.  They had a successful day raising over $1,000 for Childrenís Miracle Network.  This puts them closer to their goal of $10,000 for the organization.  Thanks to all who came.  (read more)

FFA News (12/20/10): The FFA has been very busy since the beginning of the school year.  In September three teams, Dairy products, Agronomy, and Dairy Judging traveled to Wisconsin to participate in the World Dairy Expo contests.  The Dairy products team including Thane Zehr, Timothy Hartman, Naomi Knapp, and Abram Zehr placed 1st overall.  The Agronomy team consisting of Seth Miller, Erin Ifft, and Kaylee Sullivan placed 6th overall.  And the Dairy judging team including Philip Zimmerman, Katie Shaffer, Trent Bounds, and Brittney Tjarks also competed well. PCHS Student Receives Letter of Commendation for National Merit Scholarship (9/23/10):  The principal, Dan Casillas, of Prairie Central High School announced today that Kimberly Wenger has been named a Commended Student in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, will be presented by the principal to this scholastically talented senior.
