Algebra AB (4 terms)
Algebra I taught in two semesters. Students will
cover the same material and work problems similar to the students in the one
semester Algebra I course but will spend more time on each concept. The pace
allows more time for activities that help students develop and internalize the
abstract concepts of Algebra I. The pace also allows more time for in-class
practice.
Prerequisite: Placement determined by EXPLORE Score
and grades earned in pre-algebra
Class Level: 9-12
Credit: 1 unit of Mathematics credit and 1 unit of
Elective credit
Algebra
I (2 terms)
Algebra I taught in one semester. Topics covered
include the language of algebra, properties of real numbers, solving linear
equations, graphing relations and functions, analyzing linear equations,
solving linear inequalities, solving systems of linear equations and
inequalities, polynomials, factoring, quadratic and exponential functions,
radical expressions and triangles, rational expressions and equations,
statistics, and probability.
Prerequisite: Placement determined by EXPLORE
Score and grades earned in pre-algebra
Class Level: 9-12
Credit: 1 unit of Mathematics credit
Introduction to
Geometry (2 terms)
The focus of this course is basic skills of
geometry. Course topics include angles, lines, triangles, polygons, circles,
perimeter, area, surface area, volume, basic trigonometry, and construction
techniques.
Prerequisite: Algebra I AB or Algebra I
Class Level: 9-12
Credit: 1 unit Mathematics credit
Geometry (2 terms)
This is a challenging course that focuses on
reasoning skills and logic-based argumentative skills. Course topics will
include points, lines and planes, perpendicular and parallel lines,
identifying and applying congruent triangles, quadrilaterals, proportion and
similarity, right triangles and trigonometry, analyzing circles, and exploring
polygons and area. Students will also be introduced to the proper format for
proof writing.
Prerequisite: Algebra I AB or Algebra I (a grade
of C or better or consent of Department Chairperson)
Class Level: 9-12
Credit: 1 unit Mathematics credit

Preparing for Standardized Mathematics Tests (1 term)
A nine week self-paced
contractual course designed to prepare students for college
entrance and college placement tests. Students will review
key concepts from Algebra I and Geometry and practice taking
widely used standardized tests. Students may accelerate and
review Algebra II topics also.
Prerequisite: Algebra AB or
Algebra I and Geometry

Algebra
II (2 terms)
A course in mathematics that completes the basic
algebra skills necessary to advance onto college-level math. The course covers
the topics of: solving linear equations and systems, solving inequalities and
absolute value equations, graphing equations and systems, simplifying
exponents and radicals, quadratic equations, complex numbers, matrix
calculations, polynomial functions, factoring, sequences and series, and a
review of trigonometry. Recommended for students who complete Algebra AB or
Algebra I and Geometry with about an 80%.
Prerequisite: Algebra I AB or Algebra I
Class level: 9-12
Credit: 1 unit Mathematics credit
Precalculus
(2 terms)
A course in mathematics that deals primarily with
functions: polynomial, exponential, radical, rational, logarithmic, and
trigonometric. Additional topics may include analytic geometry, matrix
algebra, right triangle trigonometry, conic sections, vectors, sequences and
series, parametric and polar equations, and limits. The course is the
foundation to Calculus I, II, and III. (Instruction based on a TI-83 or TI-84
graphing calculator.)
Prerequisite: Algebra II
Class level: 10-12
Credit: 1 unit Mathematics credit
AP
Statistics (2 terms)
A course in mathematics that will prepare
students for the AP exam in May. The course covers four units: Data
Organization, Designing Experiments, Probability, and Inference. The course
will provide a rich understanding of data for a student interested in science,
business, engineering, or mathematics.
Prerequisite: Algebra II
Class level: 10-12
Credit: 1 unit Mathematics credit with the
opportunity to earn a 3 hour college course credit.
AP
Calculus (2 terms)
A course in mathematics that deals with basic
differentiation and integration techniques. Applications from life sciences,
social sciences, business and economics, engineering, and everyday life will
be studied. Course includes preparation for the Advanced Placement AB Calculus
Exam in May. (Instruction is based on a TI-83 and TI-89 graphing calculator.)
Prerequisite: Precalculus
Class level: 11-12
Credit: 1 unit Mathematics credit with the
opportunity to earn a 4-5 hour college course credit.
