Students in Mr. Maley's 7th grade Science class are in the process of dissecting frogs as part of their study of vertebrate animals. Students work in teams of 2 or 3 to identify and measure outside body parts, dissect the frog and take a quiz each day over the parts dissected that day, and then take a group quiz over 25 different frog parts for their final grade. "Students have done an excellent job of dissecting this year," stated Mr. Maley. "This lab gives the student their first look inside a vertebrate animal, which gives them an understanding of their own body systems as well." Mr. Oakland and Mr. Maley have the 7th grade students dissect frogs and the 8th graders dissect earthworms and starfish.
