Welcome to the Prairie Central Music Department website. We are very excited about our music program here at Prairie Central. The quality of our music program is due not only to the dedication of the directors and the support from Prairie Central administration and school board, and the hard work of the students, but also to the involved parents who encourage practice time, drive kids to practices and home from lessons, and attend concerts and other music events. We are fortunate to have this combination here at Prairie Central!

News and Announcements

• 2010 Jazz Show
     The 13th annual Evening of Jazz will be presented by the Prairie Central High School jazz bands on Friday, March 19, and Saturday, March 20, 2010. Through the collaboration of students, parents, and directors, the Hawk Center for the Performing Arts (HCPA) will be transformed into a facsimile of "The Blue Note Cafe", a famous jazz club / dinner theatre in New York's Greenwich Village. Make plans to attend this fabulous showcase of jazz and swing band music. Bring your dancing shoes or just sit back and relax as you are taken to a bygone era of favorites such as "In The Mood", "Woodchoppers Ball", and "My Funny Valentine". Seating is at 6:15pm, dinner will be served at 6:30pm, and the show and dancing will start at 7:30pm.

• Seussical coming to Prairie Central!
     Plans for the PCHS spring musical, Seussical, are underway. Auditions have been held and the cast is selected. Thanks to all who tried out! Click here for more information.
  
  
• Welcome Student Teacher Katie McCann!
     Ms. McCann comes to us from Illinois Wesleyan University, is originally from Elmhurst, and is majoring in Music Education. She is working with Mrs. Underwood in the general music classes at Westview (grades pre-school through 4th) and with the junior high choir from January 4th through Feb. 20th. We are excited that Ms. McCann will be coming back to the junior high choir occasionally to work with selected pieces to conduct at our April concert! On Feb. 22nd, she will be transferring to instrumental music emphasis and will be working with Mrs. Kline with 6th grade and high school band, as well as various lessons at PCUE and PCJH.
     We are happy to have Ms. McCann, and wish her success in finding a full-time music position when she graduates this May!
