News from Mrs. Brown's class!
We had a very busy month in October, and several students from our class will tell you about our many activities.
Fire Prevention Week Oct.9-13
A few student
s participated on Oct.25 to do a skit. After the skit a fireman started a shed on fire, and a different fireman asked some question on what they should do. Then some firemen came and put out the fire. When it was out the kids went by the burnt shed and got to see what matches could do.
A few weeks ago we had fire prevention week. The firemen were nice enough to put together a little playhouse to show you a few rules about fires. Some of these rules were always check your smoke alarm, never play with matches…oh and remember never go back and get your favorite teddy bear!
Field trip to Springfield Oct. 17
We went to Springfield. We went to Lincoln's tomb. They told us about the history of him, then they took us to see Lincoln's tomb.
Then, we are lunch. We went to his museum. There were two theaters about the revolution and
about his life. Then we went to his house. They had to go to the bathroom outside in the cold outhouse. Then we went home.
Red Ribbon Week Oct. 23-28
On Tuesday Oct.24 two local race car drivers came in and discussed what they do and what they did to get where they are. There names were
Wes Steidinger and Darren Friedman. On Wednesday, it was Scooter race donation Day where the students were able to donate money for drug/alcohol prevention programs. Thursday was dress to win day, we could wear Nascar hats, shirts or local race t-shirts. Friday was We're All Winners Day. We could were wear PC clothing. The scooter race was taking place where the teachers how had the most earnings would participate in a scooter race.
Let's Race Against Drugs! Westview had a coloring contest on the 1st day. All of the school had to wear a bracelet. On the last day of the week two race car drivers came in. Some of the teachers had a race.
Congratulations to all the students and racers for a great week. We collected
about $500.
Pumpkin Show Oct.28
The 4th grade pumpkin show turned out to be a success. The categories were:
painted pumpkin, fall decoration, gourd decoration, using more than one pumpkin, farm decoration and cut-out pumpkin. Children from the fourth grade chose one of the categories. Everyone brought their pumpkins and placed them in the Learning Center. Everyone was hopefully very pleased with themselves.
Good Behavior for October
In October the people that had good behavior did the hayrack ride. Our principal, Mr. Schramm was the tractor driver. We did the hayrack ride in the fairgrounds. We went around the fairgrounds one time. The hayrack ride was fun.
When we were at the hayrack ride place, we were in the fairgrounds. Mr.
Schramm was the hayrack ride driver. When we were on the hayrack ride I saw the race track.
Cantamos Americanos! Oct. 30
We had a play on Oct. 30, 2006. The Music was Latin American. There were a lot of dancers on some of the songs. It was fun dancing and singing.
November was a rather quiet month. We didn't have too many activities, and that is good. We actually got some work done. I had the pleasure of meeting with all of my student's parents for conferences. We all enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving. The good behavior activity for the month was a movie and popcorn, and many had the pleasure of being a part of that.
Several of the students from our class volunteered to write about our activities for the month of September. Look for future activities as the year progresses.
Flag folding-- The people from the V.F.W. taught us how to fold the flag. My class got to go first because B. comes before P. and J. They also taught us how to fold the flag towards the straight part. Everybody did well, but everybody has lots of trouble. They told us we should take our hats off when we pass the flag. The month of September was good and December is going to be great. Everybody in my class knows how to fold the flag. It is always so much fun.
Flower Show—On September 9th the fourth grade classes had their annual flower show. There were many different categories. Ten students from our class participated. Great Job!
Our class enjoyed the Butterfly project. We were able to watch the caterpillars change into Painted Lady Butterflies. We discussed how they changed through metamorphosis. After their wings were strong enough we released them back into nature. It was exciting to watch them fly away. We hope they have found warm places to live now that it is getting cooler.
Open House—On September 21 Westview held an Open House. The Open House was full of people. I don’t think that everybody came. A lost of classes were decorated. The book fair was open at Open House. Mrs. Brown’s class was really decorated. It was really fun.
Our class had an excellent turnout, everyone except one was here with parents and interested people. It was terrific!
