Meet the Speech Pathologists
Westview School is fortunate to have two experienced speech and language pathologists, Mrs. Cindy Meister and Mrs. Kristyn Ricketts. At Westview School, all students are screened in Kindergarten and in Second Grade. If a student is experiencing difficulty in any area of speech or language, a more thorough evaluation process will begin. The speech pathologists look at the following areas:
*Articulation: how sounds are produced
*Sentence Structure: how sentences are formulated, if they are complete and the correct words are included.
*Vocabulary: is the student using and understanding vocabulary at an age appropriate level
*Auditory Processing: is the student able to attend to, discriminate and comprehend information that is presented auditory.
*Fluency: is the student able to speak fluently
*Language: the ability to use language for a variety of purposes and at an age appropriate level.
*Pragmatic Skills: the ability to follow the rules of conversation and produce social language
*Voice: is the voice appropriate for your age, and gender.
*Comprehension and Verbal Reasoning Skills: the use of language and speech to explain and describe thought processes
*Concept Development: the ability to understand basic concepts and use them in everyday language.
There are many things that can be done at home to stimulate appropriate speech and language skills. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the speech language pathologist at your school for ideas and suggestions.
