Operation Christmas Child
WOW !!! Mrs. Howard's children were very generous and brought so many great items for our shoeboxes. The goal was to fill two shoeboxes and there were enough items to fill four !!!!!! Great Job !!!

Owl Study
We have been studying owls in Mrs. Howard's first grade room. We have read books about owls, learned many interesting facts about owls, done some owl activities and even made an owl booklet. We also learned that when an owl eats something, whatever cannot be digested is coughed back up. This is an owl pellet. We dissected owl pellets and the pictures below will show some of the bones and things that we found.
Curtis Apple Orchard
Our first grade class visited and toured Curtis Apple Orchard on October 15th. We learned about bees and how important they are in apple growing. Mr. Curtis explained to us how apples are picked, sorted and graded. Then he showed us how the apples are washed, dried, and put in bags for selling. We were told how apple cider is made and saw the big machines that press the apples. We walked out to the pumpkin patch and some of us chose our pumpkins from the patch. Some of us got our pumpkins from big crates of pumpkins that had already been picked. We ate lunch and had a chance to play in the straw, etc. before the rain started. It was a great day. Here are some pictures from our trip.
