Prairie Central CUSD #8 is seeking a Transportation Director to begin immediately. Successful candidate must possess a Commercial Driver’s License with air brake endorsement and valid Illinois School Bus Driver Permit (or working towards this), must be able to process data to assign routes in a complex district (386 square miles, 9 towns, 6 schools), and be able to communicate effectively with students, drivers/monitors, parents, and other school personnel. Possessing some mechanical knowledge is helpful and having the ability to work with technology such as email, spreadsheets, etc. is important.
The most prominent tasks of the Transportation Director are to prepare bus routes for all schools in the district, dispatch drivers for co-curricular activities including sports and field trips, ensure the district is adhering to all safety regulations and state laws, and recruit and retain employees. All regular school-day routes have been established for the 2021-22 school year.
