Congratulations to our Primary East October Student of the Month winners!

PCE celebrated Reb Ribbon Week! Our students participated in a poster drawing contest. Their drawing included a way they could make a positive difference in the world! We were highly impressed by all of the participants’ ability to think of ways to make our school, towns, and world a better place. Congratulations to the PCJH students who earned High Honor Roll, Honor Roll, and Perfect Attendance for the First Quarter!

Author/illustrator Marty Kelley visited our students at PCE yesterday. Students and staff prepared for the visit by reading Marty's many books and decorating the hallways with student artwork and writing activities based on the books. Marty shared his new book with us (You Can't Do That) along with the process he goes through while creating his stories and illustrations. He hilariously explained to the kids during his presentations six rules for why they couldn't be authors and illustators-- only to be corrected by a squirrel that kept popping up on the screen. Ultimately, his message is that with hard work, learning from our mistakes, and never giving up, we can do anything.

PC volleyball defeated El Paso-Gridley last night and will play Eureka in the IHSA Regional Championship at El Paso-Gridley at 6 PM on Thursday, Oct. 29. Admission will be $8/person. Good luck Hawks!!

Congratulations to the PCJH Student of the Week, Angelina Marquez!

Angelina, an 8th grader, was nominated by science teacher Ms. McArdle, who wrote, "Angelina is a leader in science class. She is so kind and helpful to our English Language Learning students as well as her other classmates. She is always willing to participate in class discussions and makes great connections between scientific concepts." Angelina is a member of the Speech Team and Choir.

Congratulations to the PCJH Athlete of the Week, Reese Meyer!

Reese, a 7th grader, was nominated by Coach Cagley, who wrote, "Reese is an incredibly coachable player who works hard at every practice and game. As our starting point guard, she leads by example, is always looking to improve, and helps keep our team connected on the court. Her leadership goes beyond basketball, too. After a tough loss, she took the initiative to create a reflection form for her teammates to complete and turn in, showing her commitment to learning and helping the team get better. Reese is a great example of what it means to be a team player and a leader!" Reese is also involved in softball and FFA.

Dress up days for Red Ribbon Week starts Monday, October 26!

Our very own PCE fourth grader, Adaline Telford, is learning all about what it takes to run and maintain a family pumpkin business! She generously brought pumpkins to share with Mrs. Slagel's class so everyone could decorate their own. We love seeing our students learn valuable real-world skills and share their hard work with others!

Sometimes we get stuck in a rut. This can happen with the types of books we read, too! In order to help students explore more genres, Mrs. Kaisner’s third grade WINN group is “eating” at the Book Buffet this week. Each student is welcomed to the buffet and given a menu, then told which table (genre) to “taste” from first. After a few short minutes of sampling that book, students reviewed the book and decided if there were ingredients (words) they didn’t know. After recording their thoughts on the first table, they came back for seconds! In all students will explore 9 genres and hopefully be interested in trying new foods (books).
