Students spent several months in the engineering and design process to create these skill challenges. Special thanks to all the teachers for their schedule flexibility and to Mrs. Pick for providing this great learning opportunity!

Congratulations to the PCJH Athlete of the Week, Daniel Haley!
Daniel is a 14-year-old 7th grader from Fairbury, and is the son of Valerie Haley. Daniel was nominated by Coach Cheek, who wrote, "Daniel has really progressed this season in his development in the 7th grade season. The way that he has carried himself in practice and in games has given the team a boost of energy, and has really allowed him to see his hard work come to fruition. It is my hope that he continues this growth and pushes himself to be his best each and every day. Daniel is a great young man that will continue to grow and do good things both on and off the court. It is a pleasure to give Daniel this recognition for Athlete of the Week."
Congratulations to the PCJH Student of the Week, Michael Ifland!
Michael is a 13-year-old 7th grader from Chatsworth, and is the son of Patricia and Michael Ifland. Michael was nominated by Ms. Wilson, who wrote, "Michael is a very positive student in our school. He is kind to every student and staff member he sees. Michael goes out of his way to help others and never expects anything in return. When Michael receives help or an award, he is genuinely grateful. He is never afraid to be himself in any situation. Michael works hard every single day at school and never complains. He sees the good in everything and everyone. Compassion pours out of Michael freely, and it is an honor to be a part of his journey."

Fourth grade students in Mrs. Schrader's WINN (What I Need Now) class at Prairie Central Elementary completed their first of three Envision projects. This project, titled Pet Parade, engages students in a project that is as much fun as it is educational. Each student is challenged to discover what he or she would enjoy most in a pet and find the pet that most closely fits his or her life.
Students first researched to create descriptions of possible pets. They then made a pet picture chart that displayed and described different pet choices, used the computer to make two “recipes” for desirable pets, created an adjective wheel to evaluate different characteristics of pets, and illustrated pets’ life cycles. Using this information, students made a final pet choice. From there, they engaged in many more activities, including writing a song about their pet and a cinquain poem, and creating a cost table that itemized all of the costs associated with owning their pet.
All of their work was compiled into a binder and displayed on a tri-fold board. The students then showed off all of this hard work last night, at our Pet Parade EXPO night. It was a wonderful night!
The Karnes Memorial Fund is now accepting scholarship applications! See attached for details.

Congratulations to the PCJH Athlete of the Week, Trey McWhorter!

Trey was nominated by Coach Johnson, who wrote, "On Monday vs Watseka Trey was our leading scorer with 15 points and most of them came in the first quarter. He helped us get off to a great start in that game. This great start, helped by Trey's effort, led to our second straight conference win. Trey gives us some athleticism inside and we need him to continue to work hard and do the things we work on for us to have success."
Congratulations to the PCJH Student of the Week, Travis Kelson!
Travis is a 13-year-old 8th grader from Fairbury, and is the son of Paula and Nathan. Travis was nominated by Mrs. Ropp, who wrote, "Travis is a kind, polite, and considerate young man. I have been very touched this year with how he has taken a couple of our A.C.E.S students, in our 5th hour PE class, under his wing. He makes sure to include and encourage them in all of the activities that we do. These young men look up to Travis and enjoy being around him." Travis is also involved with the 8th Grade Boys Basketball Team and FFA. Outside of school he enjoys fishing, woodworking, physical activities and working with a local company.
