Congratulations to the PCJH Student of the Week, David Smith!
David, and 8th grader, was nominated by Mr. Rothert, who wrote, "David has been an excellent student to have in class this year. He does what is asked of him and seems to enjoy the class daily. He always comes with a smile on his face and is well liked by his peers. David has been active in the FFA as well. He competed on both Dairy Judging and Dairy Products Judging at the section level and Dairy Products at the state level where his team placed 1st in the Junior Division there." David is also involved in Wrestling and Track.

Congratulations to the PCJH Athlete of the Week, Zylar Roberts!
Zylar, an 8th grader, was nominated by Mrs. Lackaff, who wrote, "Zylar is an 8th grade percussionist in the concert band and is also the drumset player in our jazz band. When watching Zylar play, it would be easy to assume that he has played percussion for many years, however, Zylar didn't start learning percussion until he moved into the PC district last year. Prior to that, Zylar had been playing violin in his previous school's orchestra. When he came to Prairie Central last year, he knew he wanted to continue playing music and opted to learn percussion and play in our band! This year, he also started playing drumset in the jazz band and his passion for drumset playing has led him to incredible growth as a musician. He is wildly talented and is always looking for ways to enhance his playing. As a drumset player, he has incredible creativity and is always experimenting with different sounds and grooves to find which best suits the style of the pieces we're playing. Having such a talented drumset player in the jazz band is such a joy because he truly elevates our group to the next level. Keep up the great work, Zylar!" Zylar is also involved in Track.

On Saturday, May 3, Prairie Central's National Honor Society hosted their 1st ever 5k run, to support Duchenne's Muscular Dystrophy research. The chapter raised over $500 that will all go to research efforts. Edelman Heating, Cooling, Plumbing, Electric, & Solar, graciously hosted the 5k, providing a spacious location to begin and end the 5k run. Thanks to everyone in the community who supported this event!

His creativity and generosity truly shine in Art as he is always coming up with innovative ideas or lending a helping hand. It has been amazing to see his thought process and the different artistic approaches he takes when given a task or assignment. As a peer, Vinnie is very outspoken and outgoing. Addi is attentive in class each day, participating in our class discussions as she grows her interest in American history. Her work is completed with accuracy and thoughtful explanation to open-ended questions. Addi is also very interested in our Notable News each week, offering her own thoughts to interpret why current events happen and how they connect to events in history. I appreciate Addi's participation and leadership in class each day! I can also count on that leadership in CARES Clowns as Addi is one of our few returning clowns. She is enthusiastic and expressive and a model for other clowns to follow. Keep up the great work, Addi!" Addi is involved in Basketball, volleyball, track, CARES Clowns, FFA, and peer partners.

PCHS students Abigail Bachtold, Isabelle Buchenau, Addison Huber, and Kaylee Skaggs traveled along with Mr. Wolf and Mr. Quain to the Illinois State Capitol in Springfield to participate in Senator Balkema's Youth Advisory Council.
Students from different schools were immersed in a mock legislative process. Our students toured the Capitol, visited the Senate chamber, and learned about the functions of state government through interactions with legislative staff and policy professionals. Students assumed roles such as legislators, lobbyists, and reporters, to debate and vote on proposed bills and present public policy.
Our PC group also won the "Capitol Photo Contest" where the team's best photo at the Capitol was printed and will be hung in Senator Balkema's office! It was a great day!
