PCJH's Stars of the Week are Reese Weber (Student of the Week) and Aubrey Atkins (Athlete of the Week). Reese Weber is a 13-year-old 8th grader from Fairbury, and the daughter of Andrew and Kara Weber. Reese has a servant's heart and brings joy to all encounters. She joined Student Council as a 7th grader and is now the president of our council. Reese is incredibly dedicated to her responsibilities within the council, always assisting in organizing activities as well as supporting the staff and students at PCJH. This summer, Reese came in to work on the welcome bulletin board and helped chalk the sidewalks prior to the first day of student attendance. She has taken it upon herself to reorganize the Council's tasks to streamline the processes to make this year and future years run as smoothly as possible. In addition to Student Council, Reese has also taken on the job as student librarian. She is also a member of the PCJH choir, CARES Clowns, and basketball team. In her free time, Reese helps out at the Friedman family race shop. We are truly blessed to have her as part of the PCJH Hawk family and can't wait to see what this year has in store for Reese! Aubrey Atkins is a 14-year-old 8th grader from Weston, and the daughter of Dean and Darcy Atkins. Aubrey plays softball, basketball, volleyball, and runs track. Away from school, she enjoys riding four-wheelers and tubing with her friends and family. Aubrey is very outgoing and never needs to be encouraged to speak up and communicate with the team and coaching staff. She started the season playing centerfield, but when we needed her to switch to third base, she really took to that position and solidified our infield defense. Aubrey leads the team in most offensive categories, including batting average, on base percentage, OPS, base hits, and runs scored. Congratulations, ladies!

Congratulations to our first Students of the Week of the 23-24 school year! All students have an opportunity to earn Hawk Tickets throughout the week from any staff member for positive behavior. This weeks winners are Noah Koenig (second grade), Brooks Barsema (third grade), and McKenna Mortensen (fourth grade). Our winners this week get to choose a drink from the Coffee Steamer to be delivered to their classroom next week. Great job!

All Prairie Central schools will dismiss THREE hours early today, Friday August 25th. Morning preschool classes will release one hour early, and afternoon preschool classes are cancelled for today. Next week looks beautiful, so we should be back to our originally scheduled one-hour early release times all next week, and then we’ll go to our regular schedule after Labor Day! It’s been an unusual start to our year. Thank you for your patience, and thank you to the staff who has been incredibly patient and flexible in an already hectic time of the school year. Have a great weekend!

The high temperatures overnight did not allow rooms to cool, and the heat index for today calls for an extremely early release, as predicted. Prairie Central Primary East and West and the High School will release at 10:10 this morning. Prairie Central Elementary will release at 10:15, and Prairie Central Upper Elementary and Junior High will release at 9:50. Preschool parents have already been notified that preschool classes have been cancelled for today. Looking ahead to tomorrow, it looks a little better, but overnight temperatures will not fall significantly enough to cool rooms. We will most likely still need to release early. I’m predicting at least a two-hour early release, depending on temperatures in the morning, but that will be decided in the morning. We will plan to serve lunch tomorrow before sending students home for the weekend.

Good morning, Due to predicted extreme temperatures, all Prairie Central schools will release THREE hours early today, Wednesday, August 23rd. Morning preschool classes will release one-hour early, and afternoon preschool classes are cancelled. We have moved lunch times so that all students will have lunch before they are sent home today. Looking ahead to tomorrow, it looks like we can bet on another early out. We will continue to monitor temperatures in classrooms, and depending on this, we could possibly release even earlier. If this is the case, students would not be fed a hot lunch. Instead, as required by school code, we would offer a sack lunch for those who request it, which would be sent home with them. JUST IN CASE, we are asking parents of K-6th grade students to send a note with their children tomorrow morning if you would like to request a sack lunch for them. If there is no note in your child’s book bag tomorrow morning, we will assume you do not want a sack lunch for your child. Again, parents of K-6th grade students are being asked to send a note with their child tomorrow to request a sack lunch in the case of an earlier than expected release time. Stay cool and have a great day everyone.
