Owen is a 13-year-old 8th grader from Fairbury, and is the son of Melissa and Aaron Grant. Owen was nominated by Coach Grant, who wrote, "For the last two years, the Scholastic Bowl team has been fortunate to have the leadership Owen has brought to the team. Owen has led by example for the last two years. He shows his teammates the additional work needed to prepare for Scholastic Bowl meets and practices. He has pushed for new and fun games to play, which can help improve his teammates' knowledge. He has also taken the initiative to bring home questions to create a review game to play during practice. In addition, he and some teammates challenge each other in geography games. Finally, he and his 8th-grade teammates have complemented each other to create a balanced team. Owen is a great example of the strong link between participation in Scholastic Bowl and academic achievement. His work ethic and drive to do better are evident in both. His leadership in school and in Scholastic Bowl helps make PCJH a better place."

Mia is a 14-year-old 8th grader from Fairbury, and is the daughter of Brian & Rebecca Miller. Mia was nominated by Mrs. Harms, who wrote, "Mia volunteered to be a student librarian this year, and it has truly been a pleasure to have her in the library. She greets all the students and staff with a smile, encourages classmates who might be struggling on homework or just having a rough day. The day is truly sunnier when Mia is around! Mia has grown in her advocacy for herself and her education, asking for help when necessary and taking extra steps to excel in areas she deems more challenging. I know that no matter the task, Mia is reliable and will complete the task well and in a timely manner. In addition to her time in the library, Mia was a member of the PCJH softball and volleyball teams this year and has chosen to further challenge herself by joining Illini Elite Volleyball. She also performs with the PCJH CARES Clowns and was recently confirmed at the Chatsworth Catholic Church. We have been incredibly lucky to have Mia as part of our HAWK family, and I cannot wait to see what the future has in store for her!"
Congratulations to the UE 6th Grade Student of the Week, Olivia Tarter. Olivia has consistently demonstrated exceptional dedication to her academics, shown kindness to her peers in the classroom, and exhibited a strong work ethic in all that she does. Whether it's actively participating in class discussions, helping classmates, or going above and beyond on assignments, Olivia sets a positive example for others to follow. She enjoys playing volleyball and hanging out with her family. We are proud to celebrate their achievements and positive impact within our school community. Keep up the fantastic work, Olivia!
Congratulations to the UE 5th Grade Student of the Week, Kelsey Kilgus. Kelsey is a great student and a wonderful friend. She goes out of her way to help her classmates and teachers. She enjoys sports and plays basketball and volleyball. Kelsey is very creative and is always willing to share her ideas in class. We love having her as a member of our classroom family!

8th Grade Art students have been hard at work crafting scale model rooms out of recycled materials! Classes utilized their knowledge of architecture, crafting, and scale models to create a detailed miniature room all their own.

Congratulations to the PCJH Athlete of the Week, Sylvia Goembel!
Sylvia is a 14-year-old 8th grader from Fairbury, and is the daughter of Sarah and Keith Goembel. Sylvia was nominated by Coach Brown, who wrote, "Sylvia's growth and confidence as a volleyball player has grown tremendously since her 7th grade season. She is a player that is consistently working hard and doing what is asked of her. I was able to count on Sylvia to be playing and trying her hardest. Her abilities as an outside hitter, server, and passer in the back row were very reliable. She also always has a positive attitude on the floor with herself and the other players. It has been wonderful to see her break out of her shell a little more this year!" Sylvia is also involved in choir.

Meredith is a 12-year-old 7th grader from Fairbury, and is the daughter of Sally and Jerrold. Meredith was nominated by Ms. Pacheco, who wrote, "Meredith is quiet in class but always puts her best effort in her work. She gets along well with her peers during group projects and is always willing to give a helping hand." Meredith is also involved in Peer Partners.
Students at Primary East wrapped up Read Across America week. We had so much fun, we even had some mystery readers in the building. A big thanks to those that took the time to come and read to our students.
